Jan Mazela
About me
Professor Jan Mazela graduated Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) in Poznan, he is pediatrician and neonatologist. He accomplished fellowship in neonatology at UIC Medical Center in Chicago under supervision of Dr. Dharampuri Vidyasagar. After his return to Poland in 1999, Dr. Mazela was a consultant to the European office of the World Health Organization, where he served as a clinical expert. In 2002 he became a national coordinator for the Pan European 5th Framework Project on Models of Organizing Access to Intensive Care for Very Preterm Births (MOSAIC). He defended his PhD thesis in 2006 titled: ‘NeoCare as a tool for continuous monitoring of neonatal care’. During Dr. Mazela’s tenure at Poznan University he assumed co-investigator and primary investigator roles for various clinical studies including Respigam, Synagis and Surfaxin. He has published over 240 scientific papers and received the award for Best Oral Presentation during the World Congress of Perinatal Medicine in 2001. He is also an author of the patents: Ventilation circuit adaptor and proximal aerosol delivery system, and Electrodes array for lung chest impedance. He has organized seven international congresses and workshops aimed on neonatal and perinatal care. At present he is a Medical Director of the Division of Neonatology at Poznan University of Medical Sciences, he is a founder and director of the Microbiome and Nutrition Laboratory as well as Regional Human Milk Bank. Currently he serves as the President of The Polish Perinatal Society and v-ce President of The Polish Ultrasound Society – neonatology section, where he serves as the tutor for accredited courses of POCUS in neonatology.
